Although this is the official Kursaal's web site,it doesn't do much other than to give a valid discography of the band. According to the site, the story of the Kursaals seems to be the story of Will Birch. |

A once great band has been reduced to a bunch of reasonably-talented pub rockers fronted by the one true star - Barrie Masters. Still worth a fiver if they come to your town but expect a lot of filler amongst the classics. |
I've been to see Ben Waters play quite a few times over the past couple of years - he is incredibly modest and also incredibly talented. Maybe I'll do a few shows with him in the New Year. |
Mickey has always been his own worst enemy in that he doesn't suffer fools (now where have I heard that one before?). I have a lot of time for him - he has a great voice and writes R&B like it used to be, before shiny divas and blinged biffos took the rhythm and the blues out of the music. |
R&B is a style of music that has been bastardized - Wilko plays the original type of driving R&B with a unique guitar style and writes a good song. Anyone who wanted to see the best part of the original Dr. Feelgood should check him, and his band, out. |

Paul was always a talented bass player and came up with some highly-inventive playing in the Hot Rods, which created a demand for his services post-HRs. He suffers from tinnitus, which has forced him to give up the live stage - might the reason be the incredible volume with which he insisted on inflicting on the rest of us? Notwithstanding that, I wish him well. |

John Otway has achieved one of his main ambitions to be regarded as more than a one-hit wonder. He did so with the single “Let me be your bunsen burner” and removed himself from that list for all time. The Kursaals' still feature in it, though! |

Will Birch and I have a love-hate relationship. He loves me - I hate him! Only joking, but there was a time during the death throes of the Kursaals where I would, cheerfully, have strangled him. Some of my best songs (and arrangements, but that is an entirely different kettle of fish) are graced by WB lyrics - some of his songs that became part of his post-Kursaal repertoire bear a striking resemblance to songs that I had written for the Hot Rods, but who's counting after all this time. |
The Hamsters, fronted by Barry Martin, ex-Eddie and the Blizzards and Kursaals, is another Sarfend Blues/Rock band. Playing mostly Hendrix and ZZ Top covers, together with a few originals, they possess the repertoire to play two to three sets a night, so they're well-worth a look if they come to your town. It's been a while since I caught a set from them - I must remedy that in the near future. |

Pete Thomas is a fine saxophonist and Logic User. His pages are a good source of tips and tricks to use in Logic. |
Huw Gower and I met briefly in the ill-fated Red Bats, after he had played in the Records with Will Birch. We didn't spend much time collaborating but he was, and is, a fine guitarist. He, currently, lives and works in New York State, or so I believe. |
